Haiti is a country in the Caribbean that shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. It is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the most deforested nations in the world, with only 1.4% of its forests remaining. Due to this deforestation, hurricanes cause massive mudslides each year, killing hundreds or thousands of people. Simply planting a tree can save a life.
